Bonsai: It is not actually a specific species or variety of plant; any tree or shrub that can be pruned and shaped can become a bonsai (such as pine, maple, rose, juniper, etc.).
Appearance: A miniature tree with a woody trunk that, through special pruning and wiring techniques, takes on a form resembling large, ancient trees found in nature.
Light: Requires bright, indirect light. It is best placed in a well-lit location (such as near east- or west-facing windows).
Watering: Watering should be done when the surface of the soil has relatively dried out. The method depends on the type of bonsai and the season, but overwatering should be avoided.
Humidity: Needs moderate humidity. Light misting of the leaves can be beneficial in dry air.
Soil: The soil must be very light with excellent drainage. Special bonsai mixes, usually containing akadama, pumice, and lava rock, are ideal.
Temperature: The ideal temperature is between 15 to 25°C. Some bonsai species may require a cold period.
Golden Tip: Regular and precise pruning of branches and roots is the key to maintaining the miniature form and health of a bonsai. This should be done with proper tools and sufficient knowledge to avoid damaging the tree.
