This plant is native to the rainforests of French Guiana and is considered one of the most attractive philodendron species among collectors.
Appearance:
It has long, narrow, spear-shaped leaves with slightly wavy edges. Its most distinctive feature is the stiff, colorful petioles (orange to reddish-yellow), which create a beautiful contrast with the dark green leaves.
Light:
Prefers bright, indirect light. Low light slows down growth and keeps the leaves smaller. Direct sunlight can quickly burn its sensitive leaves.
Watering:
Water when the top 2 to 4 cm of soil has dried out. The soil should not remain waterlogged, as this plant is very sensitive to root rot.
Humidity:
Needs medium to high humidity. In dry environments, the leaf tips may turn brown, so misting or using a humidifier is recommended.
Soil:
Requires light, airy, and well-draining soil. An ideal mix includes peat moss, perlite, and bark chips (suitable for aroids).
Temperature:
The ideal temperature is between 18 and 28 degrees Celsius. It is very sensitive to cold air and drafts and should be kept in a stable environment.
Toxicity:
Toxic to pets and children. If ingested, it can cause mouth irritation and digestive issues.
Tip:
This is a climbing plant. To get larger and more beautiful leaves, use a support such as a moss pole so the plant can climb and anchor its aerial roots.
